Darien has a new police officer, a former physical education teacher from Poughkeepsie High School.

Officer Amanda Hinkley recently began her 10-week field officer training program after having successfully graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden, according to Sgt. Jeremiah Marron.

Hinkley has been employed for five years as a physical education teacher at Poughkeepsie High School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where she also coached girl’s junior varsity softball and basketball teams.

Once she successfully completes her 10 weeks of field training, Hinkley will be assigned to a uniform patrol squad.

Newly hired Darien officers must finish a one-year probationary period before being formally appointed as a patrol officer.
