The Darien Community Association hosted the 32nd annual volunteer luncheon to recognize individuals in the community for their outstanding service. Before certificates were handed out to volunteers, Marge Harrington, past president of the DCA, was awarded the Obie Harrington- Howes Community Spirit Award. Harrington was instrumental in the fight to keep the Darien Playhouse open when it was threatened with demolition. She also was responsible for starting the Darien Senior Center in 1978 where she served as chairman for five years.

After recognizing Harrington's accomplishments, each of the 59 volunteers who were recognized received a certificate for their service and a brief statement was read about their volunteer efforts.

The volunteers who were recognized covered a wide range of work including volunteering in the schools, at the Nature Center, the Darien Library and other organizations in town.
