NORWALK -- A Darien man allegedly shouted at police Thursday night after his credit card was rejected for a $70 bar tab at Donovan's in South Norwalk.

Kevin Wandzilak, 32, of 19 Devonshire Drive, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer.

After he was taken into custody, Wandzilak banged his head on a patrol vehicle's side window and cage separating the officer from the back seat and later continued head-banging, police said. Wandzilak was taken to Norwalk Hospital for a psychological evaluation, police said.

A Donovan's employee called police at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday after Wandzilak began yelling and shoving chairs around as employees pressed him to pay his bar bill for the evening, police said. Employees said they ran the credit card twice and they were told it was rejected.

Employees told police Wandzilak tried to walk out of the bar. When officers arrived and asked for his identification, he began yelling at them, calling them Nazis and saying he did not have to provide them with any information, police said.

After becoming physically aggressive and briefly struggling with responding officers, Wandzilak was taken into custody.
