Richard DeForest Sr., 64, of 17 Fitch Ave., Darien, was arrested Aug. 30 on charges of driving while intoxicated, failure to pull over and failure to display lights.
Police said an officer on patrol at 9 p.m. observed DeForest driving a 2008 Honda west on the Post Road without headlights illuminated. The officer turned on the car's siren and lights in attempt to stop DeForest, who continued to drive, turning right onto Hecker Avenue and eventually onto Fitch Avenue, said police. DeForest finally stopped in his home driveway, according to the report.
While speaking with DeForest, police said, the officer smelled alcohol and noted that he was unsteady on his feet and slurred his words. He told the officer that he had a "few drinks," according to the report. When asked why he did not stop for the officer, DeForest said he "just wanted to go home," police said.
He was administered a field sobriety test, which police said he failed.
