DARIEN — An unidentified 21-year-old Darien man was ejected from the front passenger seat and suffered serious injuries after a motor vehicle accident on Hanson Road.
On Saturday, Aug. 20 around 9:30 p.m., police responded to an accident on Hanson Road, west of Linda Lane. Another unidentified 21-year-old Darien man had been driving a 1999 Chevy Blazer west on Hanson Road when the vehicle drove off the right side of the road, hit a stone wall and then collided with a tree, causing the front seat passenger to be ejected from the vehicle. The impact of this then caused the vehicle to careen across both lanes and hit a second tree on the shoulder of the eastbound lane. Following the accident, Hanson Road was closed for over three hours for scene processing and reconstruction.
The front seat passenger was transported to Stamford Hospital with severe injuries. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit in stable condition. The rear seat passenger, a 20-year-old Darien man, suffered facial injuries. Both he and the driver were also transported to the hospital, but were released after being treated for minor injuries.
The Darien Police Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene due to the severity of the accident. Their initial investigation shows that excessive speed was a factor of the collision. The incident is still being investigated and the names of the parties involved are not being released at this time.
