Christopher Griswold, 24, of Bedford, N.Y., turned himself in to Darien police on Jan. 3 for charges stemming from a November car accident.

According to police, the accident took place at 3:26 p.m. on Nov. 25 on Dew Lane. A New Canaan police officer observed an Audi Quatro parked on the side of the road with extensive damage to the right side, police said. Police determined that Griswold struck a fire hydrant and a stone wall.

After contacting the registered owner for the vehicle, who was Griswold's father, police attempted to contact Griswold, police said. Griswold later turned himself in on Jan. 3 and told police he didn't report the accident because he was going to take care of the problem the following day.

He was charged with evading responsibility and traveling too fast for conditions, police said.
