Darien public schools preliminary enrollment numbers similar to 2009

Preliminary enrollment numbers for the public schools shows little fluctuation from 2009.

The school with the largest increase is Darien High School which is projected to add about 70 more students this year. Last year's total enrollment for the high school was 1,284 students as opposed to this year's projected enrollment of 1,354 students. Middlesex, Tokeneke and Hindley all are projected to have only slight increases in their enrollment numbers this fall.

The schools who lost the most enrollment are Holmes, whose enrollment is projected to decrease by about 40 students, and Royle, whose enrollment is projected to decrease by about 32 students, from the 2009-2010 enrollment.

The total enrollment for all of the elementary schools shows a projected decrease of 54 students. For 2009-2010, actual enrollment numbers for the elementary schools was 2,338 students and this year's projected enrollment is 2,284 students.

Royle Elementary School Principal Keith Margolus and Holmes Elementary School Principal Geraldine Petrizzi were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

Overall, the total projected enrollment numbers show the Darien Public Schools as having a slight increase of about 14 students.

Official enrollment numbers will not be released until Oct. 1.
