New Canaan's Olivia Hompe (New Canaan), Darien's Emily Stein and Wilton's Casey Pearsall competed as teammates on the Lower New England team that won the 2012 US Lacrosse National Tournament on May 26-27 at Stony Brook University. Hompe, Stein and Pearsall were the only three players from Connecticut who were selected by the team.

Lower New England picked up a 14-8 win in the championship game over Long Island Metro, as Hompe and Persall each chipped in with a pair of goals and Stein scored once. It was the first time a New England Regional team has ever won the tournament, and it did so in a field of 62 teams.

The New England team was presented with the Val Walchak trophy after winning the Schoolgirls Division of the tournament.
