Darien senior center announces programs

The upcoming schedule for the Darien Senior Activities Center, 30 Edgerton St., includes:
The Best of the Silver Screen, Tuesday, Feb. 26, 12:30 p.m.: Presented by the Darien Library.
Art Gottlieb, Tuesday, March 5, 12:30 p.m.: Gottlieb will explain how the U.S. Navy took control of the largest and most luxurious ocean liner on the seas at the time of World War II, France's Normandie, while it was docked in New York City.
Health and well-being programs: Monthly programs on all things healthy. Hope Street Pharmacy will begin its monthly presentations with "Herbals and their Interactions" at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Premier Physical Therapy will host an "Aches and Pains" clinic on Tuesday, April 9. Representatives from the firm will offer free 10-minute exams by appointment only. Stamford Hospital representatives will begin monthly visits on Monday, April 22, with a lunch (complimentary with registration) and learn "How to live to 100!" Computer Class with Frank Billowitz, Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Billowitz is continuing his beginner computer course. The course will consist of eight weeks of lessons.

Art classes: Watercolor class is offered on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and the acrylic class is Thursday at 10 a.m. Friday is oil-painting instruction. All art classes are on a drop-in basis and cost $4.
Jewelry making, Wednesdays, 12:30 p.m: A weekly beginner beading/jewelry-making course. The class is free. Selections of bead, and supplies for use in the class will be available for a small donation.
National Senior Wii Bowling: The Wii Bowling class will take place on Mondays at 11 a.m.

Along with bowling class and open bowling, the center has joined the National Senior Wii Bowling League. As members of the league, the center teams will compete against other senior centers all over the United States. Teams of four bowlers each are need. Those interested should inform Marcy Rand, program specialist. Wii bowling team practice will be on Tuesdays at 11 a.m.; however, the bowling alley is also available for free play throughout the week.
