The Darien Junior 6 Blue started its season with a scoreless tie against Westport Sunday at Darien High School.

Darien's defense held Westport to five first downs. Darien got great linebacker play from Will Enzor, Blake Sommi and Alex Dehmel and great line play from Charlie Zuro, Nick Santomassi, Mike Neary, Andrew Darby and Lucas Thompson. Also holding their ground on defense were Alex Marshman, John Mancini, Jack Savage and Dennis Kennedy. Helping from the safety positions were Max Gasvoda, Brendan Ross, Mahmoud Ashrifeh and Brandon Yarish.

The Darien offense started slowly but got going in the second quarter. Sommi, Enzor and Darby led an efficient offense which moved the ball well between the 20-yard lines. The Blue hurt themselves with penalties as a Sommi touchdown run and a long Enzor run were called back because penalties.

Lucas Thompson ran the ball hard and was overpowering at times. Sommi and Ryan O'Neil also had some impressive carries.

The Blue got good offensive line play. Tyler Aponte was nearly flawless in his first game at center. He got help from Neary, Zuro, Santamossi, Mancini and Savage on the inside.
