The Darien High School Ski Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday to celebrate another challenging and successful season.

For the second year in a row, the Most Valuable Players for the season were Fay Rizzuto and Peter Del Col, as voted by their teammates. Fay Rizzuto led the girls team to an 8-8 record. Del Col led the boys team to a 12-10 mark and a third-place finish in the regular season of the Class S Division. Both Fay Rizzuto and Del Col were elected Honorable Mention to the Connecticut All-State Team.

Team members nominated to compete for the Connecticut State High School Team were Fay Rizzuto, Katharine Graham, Taylor Hart, Del Col and Chris Brophy. Fay Rizzuto skied her way onto the Connecticut Team to compete in the Eastern High School Championships at Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire. She contributed a fourth-place finish to help the Connecticut girls team win the Eastern High School Championship for the first time in the more than 20 years of Connecticut participation.

The girls' times in the March 11 Connecticut State Championships included co-captain Rizzuto (44.06), Graham (46.58), Hart (48.62), Courtney Kyritz (50.43), Abby Howe (51.36), Caitlin Keady (52.88), Adriana Dziedzic (54.08), Bridget Lattimer (58.39), Madison Maier (60.65) and Lila Seeman (61.30).

The boys' times in the State Championships included co-captain Del Col (43.42), Mike Rizzuto (46.24), co-captain Brophy (46.67), Matt Nelson (46.78), Graham Lesko (47.90), Graham Skeats (50.35), Chris von Stuelpnagel (51.29), Mac Forbes (51.64), Corey Miller (51.81) and Conner Nackley (53.37).

Departing seniors for the girls team are co-captains Fay Rizzuto and Kelsey Edgar along with Howe and Kyritz.

Brophy, Ian Crane, Nick Howe, Lesko, Will McCoy, Miller, Andy Mogenson, Nackley, Nelson, Matt Santa and Nick Wolf are the seniors graduating from the boys team.

"Fay and Peter certainly deserve the MVP awards again this year," Darien coach Brian Zeyer said. "They had outstanding times in all the races this season and set great examples for the other team members.

"The team members provided great support for each other all season long, and I couldn't be more proud of their effort during the season and the Championship races," Darien assistant coach Marc Power said.
