Darien students' achievements cited

Alexandra M. Ashburne, an English major, was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Saint Anselm College.

Ashburne is a member of the class of 2016.

Justine Baird, a freshman, was named to the high honor roll for the winter term at the Loomis Chaffee School.

Kelley Fitzpatrick and Kari Kolderup, both members of the class of 2014, earned high honors for the winter term at Pomfret School.

Fitzpatrick and Kolderup also have their digital artwork on display. They are exhibiting videos from the motion graphics course.

Jack von Riesemann was among the students from Beacon School who participated in fundraising efforts for Pacific House, a homeless shelter in Stamford.

Isabella Honora Thilmany, a ninth-grader at Phillips Exeter Academy, earned honors for the winter term.

Elizabeth A. Benitez was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Binghamton University.

Rachel Hathaway graduated cum laude from the University of Dayton with a bachelor's degree in art education.

Zinnia E. Smith received the Frederic Remington Prize in Art and Art History award at St. Lawrence University. The award is given annually to the most promising junior art and art history major.

A member of the class of 2014, Smith is a graduate of the Ethel Walker School.

Madeleine Ostertag, a student at Wooster School, earned a gold medal in the national foreign language exams and a silver medal in the national French contest.

Isabelle Ostertag, a student at Wooster School, earned a certificate of achievement in the national French contest.

Claire DeLaurenti, bachelor's degree in human development and family studies; Scott Dempsey, bachelor's in elementary education; Anthony Dushku, bachelor's in nursing; John Gardner, bachelor's in communications; Andrew Glick, bachelor's individualized; Britney Hughes, bachelor's in English; Christin Linegar, bachelor's in speech, language and hearing sciences; Clayton Ludwig, bachelor's in horticulture; Dennis Markham, bachelor's in psychology; Walker McKeough, bachelor's in history; Eileen Meehan, master's degree in chemistry; Elliot Miller, bachelor's in business administration; Caroline Orsi, bachelor's in human development and family studies; Aimee Payne, master's degree in social work; Rachel Plank, bachelor's in engineering; Theresa Robbins, bachelor's in English; Lina Starovoito, bachelor's in allied health; Samantha Sweeney, bachelor's in human development and family studies; Ethan Thacher, bachelor's in mechanical engineering; Nicholas Trautmann, bachelor's in general program in music and bachelor's in Music; Jessica Vaningen, bachelor's in nursing; and Erik Vitti, bachelor's in environmental science.

Charlie Baird, a Darien High School Class of 2012 alumnus, was named to the St. Olaf Choir. Baird, a tenor and a class of 2016 music education major at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., joins the ensemble for the 2014-15 academic year. Baird is a member of the St. Olaf Cantorei. He also performs with The Limestones, St. Olaf's male six-voice a cappella group. In his freshman year, Baird sang with the Viking Chorus, the school's all-male freshman ensemble. He has also been a member of both the St. Olaf men's track and field and cross country teams. At DHS, Baird won the class of 2012 choral music prize, and was a four-year member of the Tudor Singers select choral ensemble.

Elliott Helgans, Eugenia Preston and Michael Stovall were named to the dean's list at Washington and Lee University for the winter term.

Beacon School student Thomas Cortellesi earned a perfect score on the national Latin exam.

Brian Geraghty and Kyle LaVecchia graduated from Skidmore College with bachelor's degrees.

Per Bjornstad graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a bachelor's degree in political science.

Bryan Annecchino, Patrick Brown, Emily Luongo and Kathryn Taylor graduated from Providence College with bachelor's degrees.

The following students graduated from Bowdoin College: William Griffiths, major in history and economics and a minor in teaching; Sarah Kolkhorst Nelson, major in biochemistry and French; and David Francisco Phipps, major in computer science and neuroscience.

The following students graduated from Connecticut College: Ian Gordon Schottlaender Jr., magna cum laude, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and economics; Aimee Rich, bachelor's degree in human development; and Philip Stueber, bachelor's degree in international relations.

Schyler Murray graduated from Suffield Academy. Murray also was named to the honor roll for the spring semester.

Austen Tibbetts graduated from Westminster School.

Lauren Shuda graduated from Quinnipiac University with a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Tucker White, a student in the College of Engineering, was named to the dean's honor list at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Madeline J. Garnett, of Darien, and Carolyn E. Fisher were named to the dean's list at St. Lawrence University.

The following students were named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Clemson University: Kathleen Elizabeth Nolan, a food science major; Blair J. Pelley, a political science major; and Ashley Lynette Snow, a marketing major.

Reece Pelley, a political science major, has been named to the president's list at Clemson University for the spring semester.

Kenneth Stoddard Weiss graduated from Greensboro College with a bachelor's degree in music education.

Corryn Andrianus was named to the dean's list at the State University of New York-New Paltz for the spring semester. She is a psychology major.

Abigail Howe, Mackenzie Jones, Victoria Kominek, Katherine Maccarone, Natalie Rowe and Nicholas Sullivan were named to the dean's list at the University of Vermont.

Jordan Irizarry was named to the dean's list at Susquehanna University for the spring semester.

Travis Fitzpatrick graduated from the University of San Diego with a bachelor's degree in international business.

Mackenzie Dowling, a member of the class of 2017 at Connecticut College and Ian Gordon Schottlaender, a member of the class of 2014, achieved dean's high honors for the spring semester.

Brian Michael Gleason graduated from Dickinson College with a bachelor's degree in policy management.

Christopher Alden Frelinghuysen was inducted into St. Lawrence University's chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honorary society for economics. Frelinghuysen, a member of the Class of 2014 at St. Lawrence, majored in environmental studies-economics.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently released the names of full-time students who were named to the dean's list for the spring semester. Per Bjornstad, class of 2015, is a political science major and Sherry Gilronan, class of 2017, is a business administration major.

James Peter Tyrrell received a bachelor's degree in business administration and geology from Washington and Lee University.

Sarah E. Graves, a junior English major, and Kelly N. Manhart, a sophomore, were named to the dean's list at Hamilton College for the spring semester.

The following students were named to the dean's list at the University of Connecticut for the spring semester:

Jessica DeMaio, Scott Dempsey, Andrew Glick, Abbas Jafri, Murtuza Ali Jafri, Gege Marku, Colleen McConnell, Caroline Orsi, Rachel Plank, Jennifer Selensky, Thomas Szivos, Carolyn Tarantino, Nicholas Trautmann, Jessica Van Ingen and Catherine Vodola.

James Kerr and Courtney Kyritz were named to the dean's list at Denison University for the spring semester.

The following students graduated from Greens Farms Academy: Kaitlin Ball, who will attend the University of Denver; Arthur Doelp, Babson College; Helen Filanowski, University of Denver; Caroline Frank, Duke University; Elizabeth Moley, University of Southern California; Joanna Moley, Georgetown University; Nicole Vanacore, Colorado College; Kevin Walsh, University of Rochester; and Kyle Wolfe, Bowdoin College.

Elizabeth Moley won the creative writing, history, and visual arts awards and was recognized for outstanding citizenship, and Joanna Moley won the English award.
