Police are warning residents to be wary of phone calls claiming they won a substantial amount of money and a new vehicle.
The phone calls are coming from Las Vegas, Nev., and claim the person won $250,000 and a new Mercedes, police said. However, before the money and car can be claimed, the caller asks for $250 to be transferred in order to cover the taxes on the money and vehicle. The scammers also asks that the money be transferred quickly and are targeting anyone who answers the phone, police said.
So far no one in town has reported they wired the money but police said an elderly person and a younger woman were both contacted but did not transfer any money.
