A Darien woman accompanied by a young child was robbed at gunpoint in a Post Road parking lot Saturday evening, police said.

The bandit, who remains at large, reportedly approached the woman and child in the municipal parking lot behind 1020 Post Road about 5:30 p.m., and demanded the woman turn over her jewelry.

After the woman gave the man her jewelry, he fled on foot and eluded officers who arrived on the scene a minute or two after receiving a call about the incident.

The woman and child were uninjured.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with a large build, wearing dark clothing and possibly a winter

A dog from the Westport Police Department was called to the scene to help track the suspect, but the search was unsuccessful.
