Alejandro Ferrand, 21, of 310 Valley Road, New Canaan, was arrested on Saturday, March 9, on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of narcotics, illegal storage of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., an officer observed Ferrand driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza north on Mansfield Avenue near Sedgwick Avenue. The vehicle struck the curb as it approached the stop sign at the intersection, said police. As it continued north, it struck the curb a second time and the officer signaled for it to stop, according to the report.

When questioned by the the officer, Ferrand said he had smoked marijuana earlier in the evening at a friend's house, according to police. The officer noted that Ferrand appeared confused, had red and glassy eyes and his pupils were constricted, said police. Ferrand then turned over a grinder that contained a small amount of what was determined to be marijuana, said police, and was administered field sobreity tests, which he failed.

Additionally, officers located a pill bottle on the front passenger seat that contained three wax paper folds of heroin, said police, and in the center console, they found 15 blue pills identified as Adderall, a prescription medication that was not contained within a proper container.

He posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 19.
