Daniel Chaves, 40, of 50 Hunting Ridge Road, Easton, was arrested June 1 on charges of driving while intoxicated and speeding.
A Darien officer parked in a lot adjacent to 1099 Boston Post Road observed Chaves driving a 2002 Cadillac DeVille driving at a high speed, according to police.
As the officer tried to catch up to the vehicle, he had to speed more than 60 mph, police said. Chaves was clocked traveling more than 60 mph for about 0.3 of a mile, the report states. The posted speed limit for the area is 25 mph.
When the car was eventually stopped, the officer approached the driver and noticed Chaves had an odor of alcohol on his breath, his eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy and his speech was slurred, police said.
Chaves, who said he was drinking wine at 7 p.m., failed a field sobriety test, according to the report. At the police headquarters, a Breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content was .1071 while a second Breathalyzer test showed it was .1029, police said. The legal limit is .08.
Chaves was held in lieu of $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 11.
