An 18-year-old woman lying drunk on the side of Hecker Avenue last week led police to an underage drinking party about a mile away at a Harbor Road home.

Maeve Cutts, 19, of Harbor Road, was charged with providing alcohol to minors, a felony. She was released on $250 bond and appeared Thursday in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Police were alerted to a woman sleeping on the front lawn of a house on Hecker Avenue about 3 a.m. Aug. 13, according to Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron. Officers arrived and found the 18-year-old woman lying on the shoulder of the eastbound side of Hecker Avenue, Marron said.

The woman smelled strongly of alcohol and was unable to speak coherently, Marron said. Two other women who identified themselves as the girl’s friends arrived and said they had been at a party nearby.

The drunken woman was transported to Stamford Hospital by Darien Emergency Medical Services Post 53 for treatment, Marron said.

Police went to the Harbor Road home and found most of the people there asleep and signs of a large party involving alcohol, including empty cans of beer and beer spilled on floors and the back patio, Marron said. Empty beer cans were strewn through parts of the front yard, he said.

Police found eight people at the party in addition to Cutts who were all between 18 and 20 years old, Marron said. Police notified their parents or guardians to pick them up, Marron said.
