Four businesses received counterfeit $100 bills Dec. 27, according to police.

A man and a woman purchased items from Olivette, 1084 Post Road; Chunky Pam's, 1096 Post Road; Beadz Boutique, 1094 Post Road; and Darien News, 19 Tokeneke Road, using the $100 bills, police said. They attempted to purchase items at Greib's Pharmacy but were turned away when they tried to use the fake bills, according to the report.

The owner at Darien News realized the bill was fake after the male purchased a $10 ice scraper and left the store, police said. The owner ran after the man, but he escaped down Center Street, according to the report.

Many of the affected stores have surveillance cameras, police said. The incidents are being investigated.
