A new store manager, new employees and more of a social networking presence are surely causes for celebration. That's what the ladies behind Bling, a fashion accessory store, think.

Bling, at 37 Tokeneke Road, will celebrate its second birthday at a special event on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. And since it never had an official grand opening ceremony, the Darien Chamber of Commerce will conduct a "reopening ribbon cutting ceremony" around 5:30 p.m.

Former Darien resident Mimi MacLean started Bling after leaving her nutrition consulting firm. "She thought the name Bling was cute," Roxann Waters, social media manager of Bling, said. MacLean recently moved to California because "she's always wanted to live there," Waters said.

Store manager Caroline Bucke was quick to add, "Mimi had always wanted to open an accessory store."

Bling sells various fashion accessories, from earrings and bracelets to scarves, clutches and purses, and the prices range from $22 to $300. It also carries a mix of well-known and local designers.

"So many people come in for so many different things," Bucke said. "A lot of the time someone will come in wearing an outfit and we'll

help them accessorize it with a fun pair of earrings."

Bling employs five women who all have a unique style and taste. Waters said she tries to display each of the women's favorite items once a week. "I think it's helpful to the customers. That way, if you're shopping for a high school girl you're going to look at what Paige likes," Waters said.

Speaking of customers, that's Bucke's favorite part of the job. "I just like to help the customer find the right accessory or the right birthday gift. And I like working for a local company," Bucke said.

Bucke and Waters have been longtime friends of MacLean and her husband.

"They're like family," Waters said.

On Oct. 16, the first 25 people who make a purchase receive a gift bag full of "goodies," which include a pair of earrings and samples and coupons from local businesses, and every person who makes a purchase is entered into a raffle for a purse valued at more than $200.

Bling will also host a shopping charity day in November for Bully Breed Rescue in New Canaan.

"We'll donate a portion of the day's sales on the shopping day to Bully Breed Rescue, and we'll also have a special line of merchandise to donate $5 to Bully Breed every time something from the line is purchased," Waters said. She said that in 2013

the charity shopping days will be a monthly event.
