The Darien Board of Realtors and Lawley Insurance, an affiliate member, are co-hosting a free informational session for community members on how new laws for flood insurance can impact their property insurance and provide tips on how they can protect their assets.

The free seminar will take place Wednesday, May 21, at 8 p.m. at Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road.

The program will give an overview of the national flood insurance program, as well as:

Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012;

Homeowners Insurance Affordability Act of 2014;

refund eligibility;

premium subsidies;

elevation certificates; and

permitting considerations.

"With all of the changes around flood insurance, the Darien Board of Realtors asked us to help provide a free service for property owners to understand their insurance better, and we are happy to help educate the public on this topic," said Amanda Martin, Lawley Insurance's personal lines flood specialist.

Diane Ifkakovic, of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection; Dave Keating, Darien assistant planning and zoning director; and Ray Redniss, of Redniss & Mead Inc., will be on hand to answer questions.
