Anyone 3 years of age or older can receive the seasonal flu vaccine; no residency requirement is needed.
"The flu shot is safe and the single most effective way to prevent influenza, decrease its complications and help stop the spread of flu," said Elaine Abrams, community health coordinator at Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. "Anyone wishing to avoid contracting or spreading influenza should receive the flu shot prior to flu season, which usually begins in December."
Pneumonia vaccine will also be available for adults 65 or older who have never previously received it.
Appointments are not necessary. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The cost is $40 for the flu vaccine and $80 for the pneumonia vaccine. Cash, check, Medicare Part B and Anthem and Aetna are accepted. Those seeking vaccines are encouraged to wear short sleeves or sleeves that are easy to roll up.
