The Darien office of Halstead Property was a sponsor of the 34th annual Darien Road Race Sept. 15 that benefited the Community Fund of Darien, the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital and the Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital.
"The Darien Road Race is such a special event," said Mary Green, who founded it. "We love how the community comes out to support the runners and the cause. Halstead has been our major sponsor for over 20 years and we appreciate that dedication to the race."
Halstead employees cheered on the runners as they ran the last stretches of the 10K and a 1.5-mile fun run at Pear Tree Beach.
Among those from Halstead attending the race were Joan Gallagher, Linda Lewis, Duke Felt, Ned Saunders, Joan Waggner, Holly Hawes, Peggy McGuinness, Nancy Dauk, Marilyn Hart, Cathy Russell, Mary Lopiano and Julie Bauer.
"This wonderful race has become an annual event for Halstead, as well," said Ned Saunders, Halstead Property's executive director of operations in Connecticut and director of sales for both Darien and Norwalk. "The race is a great opportunity to participate in an event that everyone can enjoy, and even more importantly, it raises funds to support organizations that make a vital contribution to our community."
Since its inception in 1979, the Darien Road Race has raised more than $930,000 to support local community social services and cancer support organizations. The race attracted more than 500 runners and hundreds of families and spectators.
