A Darien resident called police Jan. 5 after he discovered two hand grenades on his property.
According to the report, the Old Kings Highway South resident has a pile of scrap metal that friends and associates add to from time to time which he then sells. At 8 p.m. that night, he saw the two hand grenades in the pile and immediately called the police and fire department.
Police established a safety perimeter and contacted Stamford Police Department Bomb Squad which properly disposed of the grenades. Police said the grenades didn't appear to be live.
Capt. Fred Komm said the department is looking into where the grenade came from, but police "don't suspect any sinister motivating factor is at play."
