During the month of March, Darien Girl Scouts will lead their Be Your Best Annual Toy Drive to stock the toy closets at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. Donation boxes will be placed at each of the Darien elementary schools and Middlesex Middle School for toys to be accepted through March 31. This annual drive is done in memory of former Darien Girl Scout Julie Miller.

The Yale-New Haven Hospital Toy Closets program was developed to provide new, age-appropriate and educational toys to pediatric patients at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. Founded in 1993 by Ann Nyberg, WTNH News Channel 8 anchorwoman, the toy closets help insure that pediatric patients come away from their hospitalization with a pleasant memory. In addition, the toys serve as gifts for special occasions such as birthdays and holiday celebrations for hospitalized children.

Developmentally appropriate, new and unwrapped toys and gifts only please. The toy closet serves children newborn to age 18. Gently used toys and plush cannot be accepted due to infection control policies. No toys with weapons can be accepted. Contact Mary Beirne Rewcastle at satchmo4562@yahoo.com with any questions.
