DARIEN — Police are investigating a burglary at a Delafield Island Road home.

On Jan. 16 around 10 a.m., police received a call from the person housesitting the residence while the homeowners were on vacation. According to the housesitter, she had been sleeping downstairs at the home every night. On Jan. 16, she went upstairs for the first time since Jan. 13 and found the bedrooms and upstairs office were ransacked. According to the housesitter, she only noticed the front coat closet door had been left opened over the weekend, which she found odd, but shut the door and forgot about it.

Detectives responded to the home and asked the neighbors if they saw or heard anything. One resident on the private road said they heard loud trucks on the street around 1 a.m. on Jan. 14.

The door to the home was unlocked and it is believed the burglary occurred between noon on Jan. 13 and 10 a.m. on Jan. 16.
