DARIEN — Plugging fire safety and igniting an interesting opportunity for the community to learn more about what it does, the Darien Fire Department hosted an open house Sunday afternoon.

Along with a fire hats and popcorn, there was a range of activities that gave kids a hands-on opportunity to learn, including a chance to use a fire extinguisher to put out a mock oven fire.

The Norwalk Fire Department also shared its fire safety house—a portable trailer that shows people exactly what it’s like to have to cross through a smoke-filled house to reach safety.

“It’s a day for the public to understand what we do,” explained Lt. Alex Orsi, who organized the event, “and learn something about the fire service.”
