DARIEN — A 44-year-old Darien woman became the victim of an identity theft when she had nine items ordered from Macy’s on two different credit cards.
On April 1, the woman received an email from Macy’s.com about her card account. The same day, she received a package with a black, men’s Under Armour coat she hadn’t ordered. The victim looked and saw the coat and four other pieces of clothing had been ordered online and charged to her card on March 27. The victim returned the coat to a local Macy’s and the company canceled the four other orders. They also issued the victim a new card with a new number.
On April 26, the victim found four pairs of shoes were charged fraudulently to her new account. She contacted Macy’s Fraud Department, who is investigating the incident.
Both times, the victim was in possession of her cards. There is no evidence of local criminal activity.
