One of the reasons many of us moved to Darien was due to the outstanding school system. Year after year Darien students have excelled on and off the field, in standardized tests, college placements and all that it takes to be the number one high school in the state.
This fall our administration, teachers and parents will be faced with new challenges as the results of state investigation of our Special Education Department are announced. In addition, a new director of special education needs to be selected. This is a critical choice in ensuring that going forward, the BOE respects the concerns of parents in determining what is best for all of our students, and do so in a way that is transparent and in accordance with all regulations.
We are very fortunate that two outstanding residents have announced their candidacies for the Board of Education. Shannon Silsby and Callie Sullivan have the experience, knowledge and empathy to move Darien in a positive direction.
Shannon is the current co-chairman of Royle School PTO, an executive board member of MMS Parent Association and vice chairman of the Council of Darien School Parents. Through these leadership positions, Shannon has demonstrated results and understanding of the needs of the Darien parents and students.
Callie was a member of the Board of Selectmen for four years and a representative on the RTM for eight years where she was a member of the education subcommittee and finance and budget committee. Her working knowledge of town government will be invaluable during the budgeting process and upcoming interactions with the state.
For continued excellence in Darien schools, please join us in supporting Silsby and Sullivan for Board of Education.
