DARIEN — Police responded to a call at Darien High School last week after a man allegedly hit a minor with a tennis racquet.

On Oct. 12, at 6:45 p.m., officers responded to the high school on a call placed by a bystander. Upon arrival, police went to the tennis courts by the rear of the school and located the suspect, Yu Guo, of Revere Road in Darien. Officers spoke to Guo, 43, and the minor, who seemed upset and had been crying.

Guo told police he arrived at the courts at 4:30 p.m. and began playing tennis with the minor. Guo told the minor to keep trying, but the minor became frustrated and walked away during the game. Guo became upset with the minor and hit the minor on the buttocks and upper legs with the netting of the tennis racquet.

Officers spoke with the minor, who reiterated Guo’s story. Police brought the minor into a private room at the high school to photograph the injuries. The minor had a significant welt mark on the upper right leg that was consistent with the curve of the tennis racquet, police said. The injuries were examined approximately 30 minutes after police arrived.

Based on the statements given and the evidence, Guo was placed under arrest for third-degree assault, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on Nov. 15.
