Man charged with operating under the influence

Jean Volcy, 49, of Stratford, was charged with operating under the influence, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to drive right Feb. 8, police said.

An officer on Noroton Avenue was approached by a person who said they believed the operator of a red Mitsubishi Montaro was under the influence of alcohol, police said. The officer followed the vehicle, which took a wide turn onto Hecker Avenue, and observed the vehicle's rear tires cross the double yellow line, police said.

The vehicle then traveled into the westbound lanes on Hecker Avenue before driving through a stop sign, police said. Volcy failed his field sobriety tests and was released on a promise to appear in court Feb. 21.
