Maximo Reyes, 38, of 63 West Ave., was charged with driving under the influence after a Darien police officer observed him asleep at a traffic light in his 1996 Chrysler Town and Country van Monday, July 16.

According to the police report, the officer saw Reyes exiting Interstate 95 at exit 11 and stopping at a red traffic signal at approximately 11:57 p.m. When the signal turned green, police said Reyes' vehicle did not move.

The report said the officer approached the vehicle and observed Reyes asleep, the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running. The officer said when he tried to wake Reyes he had considerable difficulty.

When Reyes regained consciousness, police said, the vehicle began moving forward and the officer had to put the vehicle in park and remove the keys.

Police said Reyes failed field sobriety tests and was charged. He posted a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Friday, July 27.
