Man tried to copy credit card info at Darien ATM

DARIEN — Police are investigating a man who attempted to install a device to copy debit and credit card information the ATM at the Fairfield County Bank in Darien.
On Jan. 24 around 10:20 a.m., police reported to the Post Road bank after receiving a call from the bank manager about someone attempting to install a skimming device, which copies credit and debit card information when the cards are used at the ATM.
Police reviewed security footage and saw a man approach the ATM at 5:44 p.m. Jan. 20 and attempt to install a skimming device. The attempt was unsuccessful. Footage shows the man returning Jan. 21 and making numerous transactions with previously skimmed ATM cards. The man withdrew between $2,500 and $3,000 in total using the copied cards.
The suspect was described as a light-skinned male wearing a dark navy jacket with a logo on the left side. He was wearing sunglasses and a tan baseball hat.
The detective bureau is investigating the incident.
