Monique Elaine Appleby of Darien died Tuesday, March 15, in her home with husband, Ian, by her side. She fought a courageous battle against cancer.

Born in Rhodesia in 1937, she lived on three continents and, with husband, Ian, traveled to all but one of the seven continents. She moved to Darien in 1981.

Mrs. Appleby was an accomplished athlete representing her high school at all five sports but later in life focused on golf. She was golf champion of four separate golf clubs and latterly a two-time Woodway Ladies Golf Champion. She also served on the club's greens and grounds committee for a number of years. She was a keen bridge player and participated in a number of Darien groups.

Mrs. Appleby's family -- her three brothers, a sister, four children and eight grandchildren -- are spread over four continents.

A memorial service will be held at Talmadge Hill Community Church at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, followed by a reception at Woodway Country Club.

Donations may be made to either VNHC, 1266 East Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902 or Bennett Cancer Center, Stamford Hospital, P. O. Box 1092, Stamford, CT 06904.
