New Canaan man struck Darien woman in crosswalk

DARIEN — Police said a 51-year-old New Canaan man hit a 53-year-old Darien woman while she was in a crosswalk on West Avenue in the early morning hours on Jan. 30.
Around 5:40 a.m., police received a report of an accident at Hollow Tree Ridge Road and West Avenue. According to police, a 2003 Acura MDX was making a left onto West Avenue from Hollow Tree Ridge Road when it struck a pedestrian crossing West Avenue. The car was turning on a green light and did not see the pedestrian.
The woman complained of pain to her left shoulder and hand. She was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Officers said the woman was wearing a high-visibility vest and had other reflective markings on her clothing at the time of the accident. The driver was given an infraction for failing to yield right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
