DARIEN — Residents can expect to see new sidewalks to stroll on Route 106. The Department of Public Works announced that starting Tuesday, August 9, they will be installing replacement sidewalks on Hoyt Street, starting north of Middlesex Road and extending down to Heather Lane.

Construction on the 2.5 mile stretch of road will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. during weekdays. According to Darien Police, lanes of traffic may be closed at times during the construction process. The Department of Public Works said that sidewalks will be closed in construction areas during this time, but the Darien Police will be on the scene to conduct pedestrian and roadway traffic.

The work is expected to continue beyond the first day of school in Darien on September 1. However, the Department of Public Work said that the construction going on in front of the Holmes Elementary School at 18 Hoyt Street is expected to be completed before then.
