In second grade flag football action, it was the Darien Doughnut's (DD) high octane passing attack versus Noroton Fire Department's (NFD) vaunted running game at Royle School Saturday morning, but it was actually defenses that came to play. NFD won the tightly-contested game 6-0.

In the first half DD's Will O'Connor and Will Dehmel bottled up NFD speedsters Christian Alliegro and Grafton Ely, although Ely was able to turn one of his reverses into a long gain of over 20 yards by following the blocks of James Leone and Ryan Roberts. However, Luke Dehmel sacked NFD's quarterback on the next play.

After a punt, DD drove the length of the field behind quarterback Harrison Bell's passing. The drive stalled when NFD linebacker Peter Zengo made a stop at the one-inch line as time expired.

Knowing it needed to make something happen against a tough defense, NFD turned to John Fiorita, who scored on a huge run by following the downfield blocks of Austin Peck and Hudson Hearle.

Led by Cosmo Amatruda and Kyle Haas, NFD's defense dominated the line of scrimmage and disrupting the entire flow of DD's passing game. The NFD win was assured when Charlie Hewitt gained 20 yards to convert a third down.
