In observance of World T'ai Chi and Qigong Day, the Norwalk Hospital Integrative Medicine Program is sponsoring scheduled sessions in both T'ai Chi and Qigong for the public on Friday, April 27, between 2 and 6 p.m. in the patio room on the fifth floor of the hospital.
Last year, the event, in its 12th year, was commemorated at thousands of locations in 65 countries. Norwalk Hospital is holding its event a day early; World T'ai Chi and Qigong Day is Saturday, April 28.
T'ai Chi and Qigong are growing in popularity and have been shown in research to reduce stress, depression and chronic pain, and boost the immune system, according to the hospital.
The sessions on April 27 include Qigong, 2:30 to 3 p.m.; T'ai Chi, 3:15 to 3:45 p.m.; Qigong, 4 to 4:30 p.m.; and T'ai Chi, 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. Each session will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
