An estimated $20,000 in jewelry and other property was taken in a burglary of a home on Oakcrest Road sometime Friday, Dec. 4, according to Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron.

The homeowner called police Friday night to say he came home at 2 p.m. and found the rear patio door to the home forced open, Marron said. While the man told police he suspected a possible burglary he did not stay in town to report the crime but called police at 7:30 that night, Marron said.

Police conducted a search of the home while talking to the man on the phone and determined several jewelry boxes in the master bedroom had been ransacked, two flower vases were taken from the first floor, and a desktop computer was missing, according to Marron.

The burglary remains under investigation, Marron said.
