Charles A. Campbell

Charles Allen "Chuck" Campbelldied June 13 at his home in Seattle, Wash., three days before his 65th wedding anniversary with his wife, Patricia. He was 88.

A resident of Darien from 1965 to 1992, he was a member of the Darien Boat Club, a past commander of the Darien Power Squadron, and an associate member of the Rowayton Power Squadron. He served 10 years on the Darien Sewer Commission. His three children graduated from Darien High School.

Mr. Campbell was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in chemical engineering. Following his World War II service as a lieutenant JG in the U.S. Navy, he worked in the petrochemical industry. During his career, his family spent seven years in Japan and one year in Puerto Rico.

After his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively and settled in the Pacific Northwest.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his wife, Patricia; sister, Dorothy Merrill; children, Laurence, Douglas (Susie), Megan (Mark Falstein); and grandson, Seth.

Clifford Thomas Young Whitehead

Clifford Thomas Young Whitehead, a 60-year Darien resident, died at home on June 19. He was 88.

The son of the late James and Jessie Young Whitehead of England, he was born in New York City. He grew up in Darien and attended Darien schools, from Baker Elementary through graduation at Darien High School.

He worked at Yale and Towne in Stamford where he met his future wife, Mildred. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After serving, he worked for Consolidated Diesel in Greenwich as a tool and die maker, and later, Connecticut Limousine.

Survivors include his daughter Patricia (John) Visi; sons Clifford (Tracey), Richard and Mark Whitehead; nine grandchildren; and his dog, Bauer.

Mr. Whitehead was pre-deceased by his wife, Mildred (Scipioni), of 51 years, and brothers, Donald and James.

Calling hours were Tuesday, June 22, at the Lawrence Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at the Lawrence Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 23, at 10 a.m. Interment followed at Spring Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Post-53 Ambulance, P.O. Box 2066, Darien CT, 06820.
