John Roney, 53, of 107 Long Neck Point Road, was arrested on July 1 on charges of driving while intoxicated and use of a motor vehicle without permission, according to police.
Just after 5 p.m., police received a report that man who was driving erratically hit a car and then a liquor store on the Post Road, according to the report.
The complainant told police that Roney hit his car after turning into the driveway at 1927 Post Road. Roney momentarily stopped, but continued driving and hit Frate's Wine & Liquor. The extent of damage to the building was not known, police said.
When police arrived on scene, Roney was sitting on a bench outside the store. His eyes appeared glassy and bloodshot and officers said he smelled of alcohol, police said.
Roney told police he hadn't been drinking, but police found a near-empty bottle of vodka on the passenger seat of the 2009 Mercedez Benz E350, according to the report.
Police said Roney's mother called police to report that Roney took her car without her permission and she wanted to press charges.
Roney has two previous DWI arrests, police said.
Roney was unable to post a $500 bond and appeared in court the next day.
