Parks and Rec announced fall schedule

The Darien Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for the residents. Registration for programs takes place online at www.darienct.gov/parkrec, at the Parks and Recreation office in Town Hall or through the mail. For more information, call 203-656-7325.
Future Stars basketball: Future Stars Basketball Academy will be offering an instructional program for boys and girls ages 5 to 10 on Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Darien Town Hall gymnasium. The program will meet for eight weeks from Oct. 17 through Dec. 12. The fee is $215 for residents and $258 for nonresidents. The program will include Future Stars' "Lessons of Life" educational program and will be run by former college star and NBA player Frank Oleynick.

Piano lessons: Classroom keyboards and all materials are included in the registration fee. Classes meet Tuesday from Oct. 1 to Dec. 3 the multi-purpose small gymnasium of Town Hall. The program, for children ages 6 and up, will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. The fee is $200 for residents and $240 for non-residents.
Zumbini: Designed to let parents and their children ages 1 to 3 wiggle, sing and learn together, the Zimbini program is where the science of child development meets the magic of Zumba. Classes meet Monday from 11 to 11:45 a.m. from Sept. 30 to Dec. 9 at Flair Fitness in the Goodwives Shopping Center. The fee is $175 for residents and $210 for nonresidents.
Junior Paddle tennis lessons: The clinics are an introduction to the game of paddle tennis. Clinics will use fun drills and games to teach participants the rules and strategies. Paddles will be provided, or participants may use their own. Clinics will run at Weed Beach for eight weeks starting Oct. 16 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday for two age groups -- for 7 to 10 and 11 to 14. The fee is $215 for residents and $258 for nonresidents.
Fit Fridays: Classes will use rebounding (trampoline), flexibility training and other fitness techniques for a fun program. Nutrition and healthy lifestyle education is also included. Classes run from Nov. 1 to Dec. 20 at the Darien Town Hall gymnasium. Boys and girls ages 6 to 10 will meet from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. while girls only will meet from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The fee is $99 for residents and $119 for nonresidents.
Lego Robotics: Building with colorful Lego bricks, electric motors and sensors, the robots are brought to life in a simple drop-and-drag computer programming environment. Classes meet Fridays in November in Room 119 of Town Hall. The program, for children ages 7 to 11, will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The fee is $120 for Darien residents and $144 for nonresidents.
Lego in Motion: Students learn how to use wheels and axles, motors, kinetic energy and balance to create numerous contraptions that will be powered with motors and battery packs. Classes meet Wednesday from Nov. 20 to Dec. 18 in Room 119 of Town Hall. The program, for children ages 6 to 8, will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The fee is $120 for residents and $144 for nonresidents.
Adult paddle tennis lessons: Buddy Scudder, certified platform tennis professional, will be offering clinics at Weed Beach. Instruction will focus on stroke production, strategy and teamwork with a mixture of high-intensity drills, point-situation drills, technique work and match play. Clinics will run for eight weeks starting Oct. 15 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday. The fee is $320 for residents and $384 for nonresidents for one-and-a-half-hour clinics. Three-hour "tune-up camps" will be offered in early October for $100 for residents and $120 for nonresidents at Weed Beach. A free clinic will also be offered on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 5 p.m.
