Parks and Rec gearing up for summer

The Darien Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for the residents of Darien. Registration for programs takes place online at www.darienct.gov/parkrec, at the Parks and Recreation office located in Town Hall, or through the mail. For more information, call the office at 203-656-7325.

Beach stickers on sale

The Darien Parks and Recreation Department is currently selling 2010 park permits and boat launch stickers. These permit stickers allow entrance into Weed and Pear Tree Point beaches and are available to Darien residents and taxpayers. Stickers are available at the Darien Town Hall, room 110, or may be purchased online at www.darienct.gov/parkrec. 2009 stickers are valid through Monday, May 31, 2010.

Beach security guards will be on duty starting Monday, April 19, at Weed Beach and Friday, May 28, at Pear Tree Point Beach. A valid permit is required for entrance to the beaches starting on these dates. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 203-656-7325.

Spring 2010 Programs

Youth Programs

Future Stars Baseball: Future Stars Academy, top rate provider of youth sports instruction, will be offering a spring baseball instructional program focusing on throwing, catching, hitting and fielding. Classes for boys and girls ages 5 to 10 will be held Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. starting April 20 and will run through June 8. Program will meet on the Town Hall fields. Fee is $199/person.

Family Programs

Safe Boating Classes: Connecticut Safe Boating comes to Darien to offer this eight-and-a-half hour course that will meet the requirements to obtain a Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate. The class meets Tuesday, April 20, and Thursday, April 22, from 6 to 10:15 p.m. at the Darien Town Hall. Participants must attend both dates and all hours to be considered for certification. The fee for this program is $109/person. Pre-registration is required.
