The Darien Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs for the residents of Darien. Registration for programs takes place online at www.darienct.gov/parkrec, at the Parks and Recreation office located in Town Hall, or through the mail. Beach Permits

The Darien Parks and Recreation Department is currently selling 2011 park permits and boat launch stickers. These permit stickers allow entrance into Weed and Pear Tree Point Beaches and are available to Darien residents and taxpayers. Stickers are available at the Darien Town Hall, Room 110 or may be purchased at www.darienct.gov/parkrec. 2010 stickers are valid through Tuesday, May 31, 2011.

Beach security guards will be on duty starting Monday, April 18, at Weed Beach and Friday, May 27, at Pear Tree Point Beach. A valid permit is required for entrance to the beaches starting on these dates. For more information call 203-656-7325.

Youth Programs

April Vacation Camp -- The Parks & Recreation Department will be offering a Future Stars Basketball and Blue Wave Kickers Soccer camp from Friday, April 15 through Thursday, April 21. This basketball and soccer camp is for children in grades K to 6 and will meet at the Town Hall gymnasium and fields. Participants can choose from the basketball and soccer camp from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $280, the basketball camp from 9 to 10:30 a.m. for $125, or the soccer camp from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $170.

Fit Fridays: Time for some end of the week fun. This program will run for eight weeks from April 8 to June 10 with the boys and girls (ages 5 to 10) class held from 4 to 5 p.m. and the girls (ages 8 to 13) class from 5 to 6 p.m. The boys and girls class will incorporate aerobics on a mini-trampoline, zumba for kids, hula hoop aerobics, kids `boot' camp, and yoga circus. The girls program is a high-energy zumba-n-hoops program. Nutrition and healthy lifestyle education is also included. This program meets in the Town Hall gym. The fee is $120.

Future Stars Baseball: Future Stars Academy, top rate provider of youth sports instruction, will offer a spring baseball instructional program focusing on throwing, catching, hitting, and fielding. Classes for boys and girls ages 5 to 10 will be held Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. starting April 12 and will run through June 7. Program will meet on the Town Hall fields. The fee is $199/person.

Future Stars Floor Hockey: Bring your sneakers and perfect your slapshot! This program will serve as a foundation for the game of hockey. Each class will consist of instruction, a skill session, and game time. Every participant will receive a practice jersey. Classes for children ages 4 and 5 will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. while ages 5 to 8 will meet from 4 to 5 p.m.. This course meets for six Friday afternoons starting April 29th in the Town Hall gymnasium. Fee is $115/person.

Family Programs

Safe Boating Classes: Connecticut Safe Boating comes to Darien to offer this eight-and-a-half hour course that will meet the requirements to obtain a Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate. This class will meet on Tuesday, April 26, and Thursday, April 28, from 6 to 10:15 p.m. at the Darien Town Hall. Participants must attend both dates and all hours to be considered for certification. The fee for this program is $115/person. Pre-registration is required.
