Robert H. Patton, of Darien, will be discussing his latest book, "Hell Before Breakfast," at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Ferguson Library, Stamford.

"Hell Before Breakfast" celebrates America's forgotten war correspondents, who between 1860 and 1910, led romantic, thrilling lives on the edgiest frontiers of time and place.

In "Hell Before Breakfast," Patton writes of the young correspondents, Henry Villard and John Russell Young of the New York Herald and George Smalley and Holt White of the New York Tribune, among others, who captured large events as they were happening and whose spirit and adventure inspired generations of story tellers, explorers, artists, writers, statesmen and politicians.

Patton, the author of "The Pattons" and "Patriot Pirates," graduated from Brown University and Northwestern University.

A book signing will follow the program.
