The popular Posh Nail & Spa has come to Darien.
The third store in this 13-year-old Fairfield County business already is seeing a successful response from the community. Offering manicures, pedicures, facials and more, thus far the owner is pleased with its progress.
"The customers in Darien have been very welcoming," Diana Su, who operates stores in Southport and Westport, said.
"They don't have a salon like this here -- a high-quality place without eye-popping prices. People often come up to us and tell us this is exactly the kind of place Darien needed."
Su herself began as a nail technician.
"After working in several nail salons in Westport for a number of years, I noticed there were a few things that were lacking," she said. "I wanted to open a salon that focused on customer service and perfect sanitation."
One visit to Posh, 1077 Boston Post Road, demonstrates that Su has achieved both of her objectives. The new shop, which is on the second story up a sweeping staircase, features a variety of elegantly designed rooms with optimal features and a calm, concentrated atmosphere for clients.
"We are focusing more on spa services," Su said. "So in addition to manicures and pedicures, we do eyelash extensions, facials and massages."
Nicole Lawson, of Norwalk, was disappointed at the quality of salons around the area after moving here from New York City several years ago.
"They just did not compare to the speedy but quality service that I got in the city, until I found Posh.
"It reminds me of places in the city because it is lively, clean and nice inside, and on top of that, you get quality service," she said.
Lawson also was a customer of the Westport shop, which Su opened in 2001 and later expanded.
"Another great thing about the whole experience is that at the end you usually get a complimentary massage while your nails dry," Lawson said.
"I went to Darien for the first time last week and had the same great experience," she said. "The Darien location is huge and very luxurious."
She noted the beautiful women's locker room and changing areas, which feature the bathrooms, blow dryers and more.
"Our first priority has always been customer service," Su said. "We want everyone to feel good about the services they received. We are a spa after all and people want to treat themselves here. If anyone feels as if the service they received is unsatisfactory in any way, we address the problem immediately."
Saying she doesn't understand why some businesses are "impersonal and unresponsive," Su added, "Taking care of your customers should be the most important thing for all businesses."
Daisy Yun, a manicurist and esthetician in the new Darien location, boasts about the staff.
"Our staff are the best and most experienced technicians."
Agreeing, Su said, "We took a long time and recruited the best people from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. We have the most professional staff out there."
Yun also commended Su and Posh for the commitment to cleanliness.
"We have a perfect hygiene system," Yun said. "We use disposable pedicure tub liners. I don't think many spas use them. We have equipment that's disinfected with a medical grade sterilizer," she said.
Melissa Buch, of Darien, visited Posh during its grand opening and was impressed with what was done to the space.
"The design is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and welcoming," she said. "I've gone back a couple times for manicures and pedicures and experienced wonderful service each time. Posh is a great addition to downtown Darien."
Su wants her new location to be a "place where people can indulge themselves. There's a lot of stress in people's lives. We provide a space for relaxation and self-care.
"We make people feel more beautiful and confident."
