An employee of BMW of Darien on Ledge Road reported an unknown white male stole a $400 radar detector from his unlocked car on Saturday, Sept. 19, after lingering at the dealership that afternoon as a potential buyer, according to Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron.

The victim, a 31-year-old Fairfield man, said the suspected thief arrived at the dealership between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. that Saturday and began browsing used and new vehicles, according to Marron.

The man was asked once to exit an employee parking lot at the rear of the building where customers are not allowed, according to Marron.

The radar detector was valued at $400, and had been left in a BMW 535 in the back lot with the doors unlocked, according to Marron. The man’s vehicle was described as a 2005 or 2006 Red BMW X-3, according to Marron.
