Realities of college athletic recruiting tackled

"The Realities of College Athletic Recruiting" will be explored by Equinox Darien and Competitive Edge from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6.

The program at Equinox, 72 Heights Road, Darien, will feature a panel of coaches, athletes and recruiters who will discuss how athletes can leverage their competitive edge with their academic achievements to have more options in the college recruiting process.

The panelists include moderator Lee Jones; Kevin Rusch, owner of Competitive Edge; Eric Pellini, assistant track coach at New Canaan High School; Rob Trifone, head football coach at Darien High School; Marj Trifone, head girls swimming coach at Darien High School; and Courtney Bennett, former Darien High School lacrosse player.

Among the topics to be covered are:

Planning for admissions

Understanding the recruiting process

Requisite athletic and academic strategies

How to express interest to a school to get on their radar

When to start contacting coaches

The best way to get exposure as an athlete to your top college choices

Nutrition for top performance to showcase athletic abilities to gain exposure

The latest NCAA regulations

Refreshments will be served. All attendees will receive a free training session and a free week pass to Equinox Darien.
