Alex Rayhill is the 2014 recipient of the Raymond F. Gates, Jr. Memorial Scholarship from the Darien and Connecticut boards of Realtors.

Rayhill was chosen by the selection committee because of his varied interests, which include being an Eagle Scout and den chief; member of the cross country and indoor track team for three years at Darien High School and as a volunteer firefighter.

He will be attending Northwestern University in the fall to study business and economics as well as international relations.

He is the son of Darien Realtor Anne Marie Rayhill.

The scholarship was established in 1976 in memory of Gates following his death in an automobile accident. Over the past 38 years, children of Realtors have been awarded scholarships totaling more than $770,000.
