Douglas VanderHorn Architects is the grand prize award winner for its Bath in a Classical Revival Residence project in the nationwide 2014 Watermark Award Competition sponsored by Custom Home and Builder Magazine.
The results of the competition, announced April 10, commend excellence in kitchen and bath design. Out of more than 100 projects, VanderHorn's bath was chosen by four nationally renowned jurors, who recognized its innovative design.
Built in Greenwich, the master bath project was designed to be a comfortable room within its classical home. His-and-her vanities and the deck-mounted tub are tucked into niches to keep the floor plan open. Mirrored panels add a contemporary flair to the otherwise classic detailing of the millwork. The cornice of the vanity niches uses Greek key banding, which is also reflected in the marble mosaic floor border.
Douglas VanderHorn, the principal of the firm, which is located in Greenwich, is a Darien resident.
