The seventh annual STAR Walk, Roll and Stroll will be held at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport Sunday, May 6.

The event will be chaired by Ed, Catherine and Hope Piorkowski of Darien. Registration begins at 10:15 a.m. and the walk begins at 11:30 a.m., with two walking routes to choose from: 5K (3.1 miles) and 1.6K (1 mile). Almost 800 walkers and volunteers are expected to attend. The event raises funds for STAR's services and programs for infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities throughout mid-Fairfield County.

This year, the STAR Walk, Roll & Stroll features Brittany Decker, former Miss Connecticut and host of WTNH's My TV9 Show, as well as dance performances from Dance, Etc. of Newtown, hip hop, break dancing and drill team dance groups from the Stamford Torch Club of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and acoustic musical performances from Lara Schuler, Steve Avitabile and STAR's own Rubberband. The walk itself takes place at beautiful Sherwood Island State Park, a seaside location starting at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 6. Parking is free and pets are not allowed. Walkers are encouraged to raise or donate funds to support individuals with developmental disabilities in Fairfield County. Following the walk, attendees may enjoy an assortment of family-oriented demonstrations, performances and activities including the featured dance groups, face painting, STORM, the Sound Tigers mascot, demonstrations including the "Touch Tank" from Norwalk Maritime Aquarium, chair massages from Massage Envy of Westport, animal demonstrations from Darien Nature Center, plus arts and crafts, drumming, clowns, games, lunch and snacks.

"For us, the Walk is more than a fundraiser; it is an opportunity to introduce members of the community to the STAR family and experience the friendship, fun, respect and caring that is apparent between the staff and clients," Catherine Piorkowski, co-chairman of the 2012 STAR Walk, Roll & Stroll, said. "We feel it would be hard for anyone to be untouched by the experience."
